The Castro-Limon Foundation was born in memory of Juan Carlos Castro Munguía and Irineo Limón Vargas, two young businessmen from Baja California, who were diagnosed with cancer in 2002. Both were determined to overcome this disease and unite their efforts to provide moral, spiritual and economic support to children and youth from low-income communities who had also been diagnosed with cancer.
The Castro-Limon Fund was created in July of 2003, after both Juan Carlos and Irineo passed away. The fund was consolidated as a foundation a year later, with the vision of constructing an exclusive space dedicated to providing integral attention to children and youth-adolescents with cancer, with a special emphasis on those coming from low-income communities.
Construction of the Pediatric Oncology Center of Baja California began in November of 2004. The hospital opened its doors to patients January of 2007.
